CCP Changes Somer Blink Giveaway

Wow, I thought it would be nice to every once in a while have an ultra rare ship around space. Fking bittervets will complain about anything.

wish the serenity dudes have the same player events since i play on both servers

Good.

Loss in eve is in many cases permanent. Because of this losses in eve have meaning. There was one golden magnate. Not thousands, not hundreds. Only one. It died and it should stay dead.
Avatar
Your right people who spent trillions of isk to acquire rare ships have no right to be upset that CCP is reducing their rarity and value. Not to mention the fact that these ships would likely end up in the hangar of a collector not in space.- For reference not a bittervet less than a year playtime and still not dumb enough to think this situation is as simple as your making it.
Avatar
yes suck it somer !!!
Avatar
freaking space nerds want to keep lore intact and only one of a specific ship. Go fuck yourself with this nonsense. Eve pampering the hardline space nerds as usual.

You do know what game you're playing right? If you don't like it, I hear there is a new wow expac coming next year. Quick go grind up 87 alts and get your pokemon pet trainer fight bullshit leveled up! Needs moar pandas.
Avatar
This is at least starting to move in the right direction. Doing a special edition of one of the new ships planned for the expansion means that some lucky players still get a cool unique ship without interfering with the legends of the old (now extinct) ships. Now if they could just back away entirely from the idea of giving support and legitimacy to one player run corporation/organisation over another, they might even get through this without bloodshed.Good grief CCP. The CSM exists as a sounding board for gauging player reactions to things. What's the point if you don't use them? Both the TOS issues and this could largely have been avoided just by talking to people who actually have somewhat of a good read of general player opinions because, ya know, they're players themselves.
Avatar
Nobody can dig themselves into a hole like CCP can.
Avatar
CCP mostly misses point as to why this is A Bad Thing, Bad Thing happens anyways, possibly less bad? Whatever; look over there! Rubicon! Ooh, shiny SoE ships!
Avatar
you can never have enough pandas or whiny 12 year old faggots in your video games
Avatar
Not a fan of WoW at all, but bringing up the "my nerdy MMO is better than yours" crying doesn't make an argument any more valid. It's just a lazy and overused jab.
Avatar
I like the part where CCP Navigator, as a CCP Employee, states with absolute certainty, that somer have honored literally every single thing since their inception.I like that he repeatedly beats us over the head with how trustworth somer are, and how it's totally legit and we should all go give somer our isk right now because it's so cool and legit and look they have special shinies that only they have quick go give them YOUR FUCKING ISK NOW GOD DAMN IT I'M CCP NAVIGATOR
Avatar
The voice in my head as I read this made me laugh to tears.
Avatar
This announcement really changes nothing. Super unique items (or very valuable items) not available to other player-run websites/organizations.
Avatar
They're super legit:http://blinkexposed.blogspot.d...See.
Avatar
I dont see the difference between CCP saying SOMER is legit and CCP saying Chribba is legit. The one thing seems to be fine, the other gets people raging.Chribba is making ISK with his service, that is advertised by CPP, too, you know?I understand that these legendary ships should stay that way and I understand that the owner of EVE Hold'Em feels left behind, but thats it.
Avatar
It isn't crying. The reason why it appears that the "hardline space nerds" get what they want is we tend to argue with reason and facts instead of WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY BUTT HURTS! NEEDS MOAR PANDAS!!! GIVE ME EPIX!The economic implications of what was being done here gave an absurdly unfair advantage to the guys at Somer Blink. It would be unfair of CCP to give credence to their corporations lotteries or prizes that would net them huge amounts of profit.Don't even start on the implications of CCP declaring the trustworthiness of a player corp only to have that backfire when it comes out Blink has been scamming or skimming etc.You want to talk about lazy and overused, lets talk about giving players tons of free shit to make them feel special because they have a two second attention span. If you want instant gratification and free shinies get out of our game and go play Hello Kitty Adventure Island. The majority of us are here because that is exactly what this game ISN'T.
Avatar
This has actually been explained away. Whether you believe it or not is another question I guess. The story is that characters like that were playing with another name and character and then sold said character. Their stats were then transferred to their new character by blink staff. Seems like a fairly simple explanation to me.
Avatar
True enough. How else would provi block function?
Avatar
First, 'stupid' is an adjective; your title would be like saying heavy called for you. Grammatically your name doesn't make any sense. So the fact that you say you are "still not dumb enough" could be untrue.Secondly, when you talk or reply in text to someone, it would be courteous if you didn't reply like a limp-wristed hipster sissy and speak in obvious irony with phrases like "your right [ect]." It sounds banal and condescending. Mean what you say and say what you mean and act like a serious man if you want to be taken seriously.Nobody thinks you're cute or clever. Instead, intelligent people who read this will think you are a coward for acting the way you do from behind a computer screen. Also, that you can barely stammer out phrases and use a keyboard like some apes can be trained to do.p.s. Kill yourself mother fucker and do the gene pool a favor.
Avatar
I appreciate you having a legitimate counter point.
Avatar
First, Stupid can be used as a noun, ie "I'm with Stupid." or "Hey! Stupid, over here!"Secondly, when you talk or reply in text to someone, it would be courteous if you didn't act like a complete cunt.Nobody thinks you're cute or clever. Instead, intelligent people who read this will think you are a coward for acting the way you do from behind a computer screen.( Irony much?)p.s. Sad...just sad.
Avatar
I get the history thing about the gold magnate.. but it is a ship they can be rebuiltbut then again I would personally prefer a all expences paid trip to Fanfest..
Avatar
It's a MUCH better prize. I agree.
Avatar
The main thing with these old ships.. they will just be a collecters item really.. I do not think who ever won it/or brought it from the guy who won will actually fly these.. So I dont actually see what the big deal is
Avatar
Again, another failure because decent people with college degrees and some measure of success in life don't call out to people "hey! stupid, over here" Instead I would say "Hey Zom, over here". But courtesy is lost on your kind just like hygiene is.People who play computer games are generally losers or low lifes, you fit the mold perfectly.
Avatar
This is almost the same thing as the T20 scandal. There's two major differences, it's significantly more valuable, and at least T20 had the sense to realize that it was something they shouldn't be doing. For CCP to be brazenly giving trillions of isk worth of prizes to an in-game for profit entity is apalling. If they go through with this, I am done with this game.
Avatar
Wow, that just puts me right in my place. Tell me, is your need to put people down and act like a raging fuck bag a product of your father beating you or the other kids at your middle school making fun of you? I realize you're at a tough point in your life, but as the cliche saying goes, it gets better! Maybe after your raging hormones subside a bit and you come back to a socially acceptable level of Sperg you can join Test!

As a BlackBerry fan I disagree :P
Avatar
You really just knocked yourself out of the conversation there. Do you realize the sweet twist you backstabbed yourself with?
Avatar
I'm sure he doesn't. You're talking about the same person who said "Nobody thinks you're cute or clever. Instead, intelligent people who read this will think you are a coward for acting the way you do from behind a computer screen." just moments before hand. The irony is palpable.
Avatar
and here I thought I was the only blackberry fan left in the world.

Oh lord that was so wrong and so right, be careful it just might be your super cap -7- and friends bait an kill next time YF FTW

What's a blackberry is that like one of those CD things?

Why should CCP, as a FOR-PROFIT COMPANY, not have the right to partner with whichever clever player adds value, especially if it's outside of the game, even if linked via API? Hurr favortism? People who create something like Somer Blink deserve any deals they can get from CCP.What if the EFT developer was offered to be bought out by CCP? Say CCP offer cash or ISK in exchange for all rights. He takes cash, nobody has a problem with it, but oh, if he takes ISK and it's HURR FAVORTISM again? That would be no different from the Somer Blink deal. It's all just money, and obviously ISK is worth less than USD because you can only exchange it in one direction. If the Somer Blink developer were smart, he'd ask for cold hard $USD in exchange for giving CCP the privilege of promoting their game by using a system he created.
Avatar
Depending on the time line the character could of been biomassed and then recreated later.
Avatar
How is this any different then CCP handing out unique prizes at something like eve vagas which is a player run gathering (or any player run gathering that CCP supports with swag)? If it is different, where do you draw the line at when it is or isn't acceptable for CCP to give away things to the community indirectly to generate publicity.CCP knows that blink is a fairly trust worthy site and has a high exposure to the player population. They decided they wanted to generate publicity about their community and decided that blink was a good player run group to handle it. Blink has the servers and capacity to easily handle this promotion at fairly low cost. CCP maybe signs a contract with Blink, maybe they just give it away for publicity.I don't see any problem with this. Sure blink could rig the give away, but if CCP found out they just wouldn't hand over the prizes. Blink probably makes a bunch of isk off this, but i don't really care because he supports a lot of cool eve related things (solo pvp vids, tournament at eve vagas, etc etc)
Avatar
Could you hurry up and actually LEAVE like you said you were going to?
Avatar
The issue isn't whether it's rigged, the issue is that BLINK is getting a massive influx of ISK due to the way the giveaway is structured. Every ticket bought on BLINK represents a significant amount of profit. Tying these items to BLINK plays guarantees BLINK a large amount of extra profit as people play BLINK to rack up tickets for these items that BLINK got for free.A better way to handle this would have been to ask BLINK to set up a special Bonk for this event, and have it turn over all bonked funds to CCP for destruction/PLEX for charity/whatever. Blink would still get extra publicity and traffic, but it wouldn't be directly recieving funding due to their affiliation with the giveaway.
Avatar
Seriously, sometimes I think "who they have running their marketing department?".... If it's promotional, get some good marketers... if it is game development let game devs handle it. Don't mix the two. Game devs are great with coming up with game ideas, marketing strategists for selling those ideas.
Avatar
What?
Avatar
I sense a fundamental failure to grasp the actual issue.CCP advertising Chribba, just like anyone else who wants a spot light is fine. He doesn't get any free stuff from CCP. He just gets visibility.CCP gave Somer Blink a ton of items worth tens of billions of ISK. He'll then put them on his gambling site where people will give use hundreds of billions to try and win them.If you cannot tell the difference then you need to seek help.
Avatar
pfft, jealousy. What a bunch of whiners.
Avatar
Blink, as an organization, does hand some in-game coin to player-run tournaments and pvp streamers, etc. I admire them that, that's a nice community gesture.Giving them hundreds of billions worth of stuff to profit off of at their own discretion sheds any semblance of impartiality CCP has. I'll add the tournament isn't open to literally every EVE player with an account in good standing with CCP (as opposed to Somer Blink which has banned people they effectively "don't like" from using their third party service, which is entirely within their rights and probably justified for people doing things like trying to game their system and other dodgy things, but in this situation shuts out people who CCP themselves has no issue with from participating). And I'll parrot the same thing many others have said, don't give one player organization exclusive rights to distribute and profit off of an item, no matter the scale of the isk they deal in. Even if it's not the gold magnate and GVexor, the new ships are still assets with essentially the same rarity and worth. Argh.No problem with CCP putting a spotlight on Blink - they help bankroll a lot of player content and that's genuinely great and admirable - but CCP should have done the giveaway lottery in-house from a pool of active subs.
Avatar
I don't know why SomerBlink would scam, because the way the lotteries are done guarantees that they get money from every single lottery they have, except bonus lotteries. When I last played the speed was like 10 lotteries per minute, making their isk per hour over 3b, even if they only get 1m from every blink. And the blink were set so that they more likely got something like 3-5m.So really, no need to scam, because it's the only thing stopping this mad money maker if players get to know about it and stop playing.
Avatar
Ah I counted it by 10 blinks per second, so the 3b isk/h is not right with 1m per blink. But anyway, they get billions per hour in reality.
Avatar
I have a theoretical question. If Somer were given control of the prizes to distribute to the winners, and the powers that be within Somer decided to scam the pizes and not give them away, would that be viewed as legit and within the game mechanics?
Avatar
Blackberry is just a fad, I will be sticking with my bag phone.

TRUST SOMER TRUST SOMER TRUST SOMER TRUST SOMER - What the fuck is this, CCP Brain washing? This bullshit is beyond unacceptable, where is the sandbox? This is like God in real life speaking out to us telling us to trust certain corporations/companies (with no mention for some others). In the sandbox; CCP should not exist, because they are literally gods in this virtual world.I am so disappointed by this. How can CCP Navigator be this naive.
Avatar
If it's the favouritism that's the problem, why wasn't there a massive outcry during the 1Q celebration when CCP gave them a bunch of Collectors boxes? Surely it's EXACTLY the same thing? This smells like someone with a clear agenda against Somer Blink latching on to the justifiable rage at giving away some ships that shouldn't be given out.If it was really about who was given these things, people would've been just as outraged at the 1Q thing. Stop crying that you weren't as clever as Somer Blink ffs. We all know he's insanely rich beyond the ability of most of us to even imagine, but it doesn't mean that you can't come up with the next great money maker.Of course. That money maker won't be the cheesy recruitment scamming that was being perpetrated before the "amendment" to the ToS, but that's the whole point of this crying, right?
Avatar
Herp a Derp your employment history only starts when you join a corp. You can be a 10 years old char and have no employment history at all if you wanted.
Avatar
lol, no.
Avatar
Where is CCP saying that Chribba is legit? That would be a very dumb thing to do.Chribba is a well known third party because the players choose to trust him.
Avatar
I'm sure it's not fun for CCP to invest in a model that only gets used once. Why wouldn't they just reskin and rename it, maybe tweak it a bit to be more competitive in the current frigate market? They keep their lore intact and get to reuse the model.
Avatar
How are ultra rare ships "ultra rare" if they hand them out repeatedly?
Avatar
Collectors boxes can be acquired by anyone. There, the difference.
Avatar
i think i like you.
Avatar
Yup. If they make the ships available to anyone for 100B ISK or similar, then SOMER is free to buy as many as they want to auction away and drive traffic to their site. Similarly, any joe random with 100B or $2000 can buy one themselves.
Avatar
Yes. Chars can have empty/bugged employement history if they existed before newbie corps existed, and never joined a player corp.
Avatar
IMO CCP should NOT be saying Chribba, or anyone else for that matter, is legit.Chribba could decide to wake up one morning and scam people in game with his 3rd party service. And you know what? It would be completely legit game-play within Eve. CCP has no business stepping in to the player created content of the game that is not a ToS or EULA breech. Period.
Avatar
Read this http://themittani.com/features... and the Eve-O forum posts by GM Grimmi here. It's a threadnaught of sorts but eye opening IMO https://forums.eveonline.com/d...
Avatar
blink have their own terms and bans. People banned on the blink site are unable to compete, therefore as unforseen as it may be, there is an amount of discrimination is taking place.Somer may operate in a good and fair manner and randomise the winner, but they have already chosen the people who cannot compete.

"...and at least T20 had the sense to realize that it was something they shouldn't be doing..."At first I thought the 'they' was just a typo (cause T20 was actually a guy) but after reading the sentence again I came to the conclusion that you have no idea of what you're talking about.T20 (and the BOB leadership as well - same for CCP for quite some time) never 'realized' (in the sense of remorse) what he was doing (spawning a T2 BPO out of thin air) was plain and utterly wrong. Kugutsumen was the one who brought this shit to light and was shot as the messenger (just like the whistleblowers, speak Edward Snowden, nowadays).

You spent a couple grand on one of these ships and got slapped in the face when reality came knocking, didn't you?
Avatar
"People who play computer games are generally losers or low lifes, you fit the mold perfectly."That would be you..
Avatar
Hey CCP, I would also like to run a lottery, can I have a unique ship with better stats than anything already in the game, for free; then I can sell tickets for isk, of which 100% is pure profit?I can't? Then it's unfair.

See what happens when devs get drunk in Vegas!! They start pulling Golden Magnates and Guardian-Vexors out of the dev hat!

Earlier today, CCP announced a controversial giveaway sponsored on Somer Blink to celebrate and promote EVE Vegas 2013.

Several rare ships were up for grabs in the contest, which sparked outcry from the community. One of these hasn't existed in the game since the lone hull was destroyed in 2004. Additionally the contest seemed to create a perceived favoritism of Somer Blink by CCP, which only added fuel to the fire.

CCP Navigator made a new thread addressing the criticism, concerns and comments from the EVE Community, and announced that CCP is changing the items being given away.

The following changes will be made to the Golden Magnate & Guardian Vexors. These ships were originally part of the prize pool, but had previously been released in past CCP events.

  •  The Gold Magnate prize will now become the option of either a unique variant of the new cruiser with enhanced stats and a different skin or an all-expense paid trip to Fanfest 2014.
  • The Guardian Vexor prize will now become the unique variant of the new cruiser with enhanced stats and a different skin.

The post went on to address the general complaints and issues people had with the event. Somer Blink is part of a collection of sites like EVE-Bet.com, EVE Hold'Em, etc. that offer lotteries, which the rare items are being offered through. Somer Blink stands to make a great deal of ISK off this event alone through the percentages they take with each token bought, which is part of the outcry the community has raised and where the allegations of perceived "favoritism" by CCP stem from.

CCP Navigator addressed this question, as well as whether or not CCP will be moving these sort of rare item giveaways from fansites to CCP-operated platforms:

We want to address this in our upcoming process discussion surrounding 3rd party sponsorship. We want to provide as much support for our community as possible, and one of the most meaningful ways to do that is with special, rare or limited edition items on Tranquility. We need to investigate whether that approach is ultimately positive for EVE before we make a decision about whether future item giveaways should be done only directly from CCP.

Many thanks for all of your patience during this time and we hope this explains some of our thinking. We would also like to address the role of SOMER Blink in this change. They have had three years of constantly delivering on every blink, blast and bonk they have organized. Clearly, this is going to change in this circumstance and this is not their fault in the slightest. We are aware players have played blinks to get involved in the lottery and there is nothing we can do to reverse those transactions. We believe the replacement prizes are of such a high value as to be equal compensation.
