Sound improvements coming with Retribution

I'm surprised that nobody wrote anything about new safety button yet, especially about it's nonpersistent nature.

What are you talking about, there is no sound in space!

Noooooo!!!! My jukebox!I have a big playlist for EVE... now I'm going to have to sacrifice CPU cycles to run an out-of-game media player. This makes me sad.

http://soundcloud.com/ccpgames...Ah my first moments as an EVE player in musical form.

ccp should make a realism mode you can engage ...

There are articles about it

I'm glad somebody pointed this out.

remove the v from audio enabled..

game lore, you might want to check it out. the sounds are being simulated to pod pilots inside the capsule, in order to help them navigate in combat n shit

the skill completion- and gatejump-sounds are terribad in my opinion. especially the gate sounds are rather disappointing: you get flung across lightyears of space, the current sounds give you a much better feeling of that speed and force than the new ones on sisiother than that, i like those changes. not that it really matters, though, as i've turned the sound to a level where i recognize shield and armor alert, but can listen to music or voicecomms without being distracted by ingame sounds

There's also no fluid drag in space.

That's actually interesting. Link?

Oh dear, disable safety is so light :evil laugh:

EVE has sound?

After a while Anu's voice came back: "You're doing very well. Now we are going to activate the audio synthesizers.""Audio synthesizers? What do you mean?" Pirkotan thought."As you know there is no sound in space, but when we were developing the capsules we found that people wanted to use as many of their senses as possible, thus we added the sound. By letting a computer create three dimensional sound we also add to the awareness you have while in battles, for instance."Several seconds later Pirkotan could hear the audio synthesizers kick in; he could hear the low humming noise of the propulsion system and the sudden hissing sound of course-correctional thrusters. Anu came back on: "Now we'll test the audio system."http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/w...

Whew! Finally...

Saturn wants to disagree with you:http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pa...On a side note. Scariest sounds ever. >_>

I dunno, all personal preference I guess, but for me they still mostly sound terrible. For example, no consistent theme in the sounds for the safety settings, no consistency with the cap-low warning if you relate it also to the low shield and low armor sounds. Explosion sounds.. Just get rid of the terrible metallicy reverb it sounds terrible!Love 'em or hate 'em, while I appreciate they re doing it, I'm still on the hate-em side. CCP missed a chance to make me go 'Wow, cool!' instead it's more like? what the fuck, thats terrible...
Avatar
I hope they changed the jump bridge sounds, it sounds like someone is taking an explosive dump right now, and it causes ear bleeding.

Aliens man!!!That is seriously creepy tho...

We're still going to be able to turn most of this crap off though, right? Most of these suck.

SO SAD WHY YOU DO THIS CCP

Really sad to see the Jukebox go, though I haven't used it nearly as much since I started dual-boxing on one screen -- when you run windowed, Winamp's way nicer to use.The sounds generally seemed improved: still not EVE's strong suit, but the variation and the smoothness matches well with the UI changes.

Saturn is only "pretty" because it is bathed in the remains of all the things it has destroyed.

These are the Retribution sound improvements/additions I cover in this video:

  • ship idling
  • container open & loot
  • stargate jump
  • ship safety settings
  • crimewatch 5sec countdown
  • ship explosion & general combat
  • event based music changes
  • soft soundscape when using ingame star map
  • skill train completion
  • capacitor depletion warning
  • new warp sound effect

The ingame jukebox is being removed and replaced with an event based music system.

If you wish to listen to the current 69 unaltered tracks of EVE, then you can find them here.
