tl;dr Too close to the art style used by the RZR propaganda team and doesn't match any other propaganda/communications from Goonswarm. The old textbook-style newbie guide played on the public perception of goons (hyperactive 12 year-olds who draw dicks everywhere) and its visual style matched the goon wiki and forums reasonably well.If Razor had produced the new guide I'd be awed because it would make sense given their long history of propaganda releases and signal them moving forward by a decade or so in terms of art style (which would be a nice message to send with such a "milestone" guide). But this just leaves me scratching my head - is it a random gaffe or is Goonswarm planning to rework their corporate design completely? and if "yes" to the second option, why choose a design that is so similar to the one a very close ally has employed for years?

Oh believe me, we kicked up a stink about that. Got the subforum name changed at least :P

I don't think it is that complicated. The 2011 and 2012 newbie guide attempts fizzled out unfinished. Some goon with the skills and tools took a bunch of old newbie guide text, plus text from our newbie forum and wiki, and made what he wanted to make. Then he posted it, the collective did a bit of copy editing and a few new contributions to cover current events, and that's it.Random goons make random things. The best of the chaos gets released to the public.

TL:DR You're reading too much into it.I'd never seen RAZOR propaganda before so I looked some up, it's excellent. They have a consistent style, a fun theme and they execute it very well. That said, other than superficial similarities (use of period body typefaces, newsprint backgrounds) the two styles are very distinctly different; RAZOR uses a Russian Constructivist/Agitprop pastiche while the new GF guide is a 50s American Pulp Science Fiction homage. As a matter of fact, if RAZOR had made this guide it would have been a pretty significant departure from their current style.

having met kismeteer i can attest to the fact that he is a very buxom blonde

Given that the guy on the left is holding Hanzo Steel, I'm guessing that's Kismeteer.

Awesome work. The quality puts a lot of professional publications to shame. Very well thought out and structured too... Am jealous...

Thanks for giving us your college photos for the Theta ad - 1965 looks like such a great year!

The Director of Mentors in Goonswarm Federation, Andski, began preparation for the upcoming GSF newbie drive on Somethingawful by seeking to update the 2010-era Newbie Guide. Two newbies - Boliver Shagnasti and Samahiel Sotken - stepped forward and spearheaded the project, and the result is frankly a work of art: a 1950's Pulp Scifi magazine full of internet spaceships and sociopathy.

Check it out here.
